FILM BLOG: 'KICK-ASS' COSTUME COMPETITION

Dress Like the Superhero that You Want to Be & Perhaps You Will Receive Your Calling!

Superheroes are all the rage nowadays. It used to be that just kiddies in their pajamas and bath-towel capes had superhuman dreams, but now capes and codpieces are en vogue. Strike a pose! Literally.

This April, LionsGate Films will release the anticipated, ultra-violent and satirical Kick-Ass, which is about some city-dwelling teens and kids who decide to costume up and take justice into their puberty-filled hands.

It's based on Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s graphic novel of the same name -- their names, of course, being heralded in the comic world. We got Angelina Jolie's Wanted, a few years back, from the same minds. Being that Kick-Ass is about normal folk taking up hobbies intended for those with radioactive spider-bites or kryptonian blood and portraying the consequences, in conjunction with the film's release and Millar and Romita's comic sequel, LionsGate wants to give you a shot at your own costume, identity and...yes -- even panel in a comic book.

Starting now, if you go to iwillkickass.com and follow the following rules, you might just find your face drawn in a real live comic book...and gentlemen, how much will that impress the ladies? Probably a whole bunch.

So check out the following, courtesy of LionsGate, on how to start kicking ass:

1. Upload your picture, connect with Facebook or use your web-cam to capture your superhero pose.

2. Add weapons, helmets, masks and superhero gear to create your best superhero.

3. Choose your superhero name and identity.

4. Encourage your friends to vote for your superhero! The ten superheroes with the most votes will make it to the final round.

One winner will be chosen by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., and nine runner-ups will win Kick-Ass prize packs.

Gear up! It’s time to test your superhero skills! I've gotta admit, I don't often type up the bevy of press releases that meet my inbox, but this actually struck me as kind of cool. In fact, maybe I'll see some of you kicking ass in the running of winning the contest. You can call me...Bloggerman!

Eh, never mind -- you win.

Kick-Ass the book is available now.

'Kick-Ass: The Movie' will be at your local theater with (if I am feeling cynical) probably an edited title on the marquee on April 16th, 2010.
