Everyone is destined to fall in love with someone. Somehow. Someway.
For Beth, she just had to let her love blossom, just like the person who portrayed her on-screen in Adam. Her name says it all. Rose. A fresh spring blossom.
In approaching her character, Beth, the Australian-born actress, did something that was only fitting to her in real life. She let the love of Adam, a gifted yet challenged soul, blossom.
“Anything is possible,” actress Rose Byrne said when asked if she could fall in love with a mentally challenged character like Adam’s — just as her character did in the upcoming moviadame, Adam. Such a strong statement from a lovely, seemingly strong individual.
For Rose, falling in love with the movie’s central character was a “study of the human condition, a testament to Max (Mayer, writer of Adam).” Love can be portrayed as beautifully as shown in Adam. With love, Rose feels that there has to be a “mystery of attraction.”
“Adam is very candid and honest to a fault; I think that is what is so appealing about him.” This is what keeps her with her leading man, Brendan Cowell, in her real life. Does he get jealous of her round of cute leading men? She laughs refreshingly; he “has his fair share of cute leading ladies.”
Are there any similarities to Rose and Beth?
“I’m probably fairly patient like Beth is, and I think I have a natural curiosity for things like she does, but she’s much more forthright and assertive, to a fault. She’s very open and spontaneous, she’s very unconventional and not very ‘Sex in the City,’” she said in comparing herself to her character.
“What makes a relationship spicy is if you love and trust someone but you’re still mystified by them.”
Adam was definitely someone Beth was mystified by. It did not take long for Adam to become demystified, however. Discussing that love with Adam was a huge topic of the day when Buzzine spoke with Rose. When directly confronting her with the meaning of love, she almost became frazzled and unsure, blaming her jet lag more than what her heart holds.
“There are so many different types,” she said. “Father to son, sister to brother, two lovers…so many different variations on that kind of theme; Adam explores that, in a way.” Nice way to bring it back to the movie, Rose, but where is the heart?
“Heart of the film, he’s exploring if Adam loves her or needs her.”
So what is next for Rose? What will she be exploring once Adam hits the big screen later this week? What would she be doing if she wasn’t acting, or loving?
“I’ve always been interested in English literature — teaching it or going into studying psychotherapy. I’ve been acting since I was eight years old, so I’m not so sure,” she candidly said. “But a life outside the industry is important. It sounds like such a cliché, but I’m a part of an online book club. I do yoga — another cliché. Spending time with friends and family, most of the time I’m a bit of a gypsy so it’s nice to spend time with family. Home is between New York and Sydney.”
Rose just turned 30 on July 24th. She already had her huge birthday bash, so on her actual birthday, she was on the road promoting her upcoming movie, Adam.
